VISITS “Design Thinking Test” verified by 100 participants: Study on correlation between “Problem Solving” and “Design Thinking Score” co-authored by Professor Takashi Iwamoto, Keio University, accepted by International Conference. (Peer-reviewed)

– A new era in which Design Thinking skills can be measured and nurtured. –
A study on the reliability of design thinking scores quantified by the Design Thinking Test offered by VISITS Technologies (Location: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Masaru Matsumoto, hereinafter referred to as “VISITS”), co-authored by specially appointed Professor Takashi Iwamoto of Keio University, has been accepted for publication by “The 6th World Conference on Production and Operations Management” in August 2022.

VISITS aims to support DX in Japan by using Design Thinking Scores in areas such as recruitment and training, as well as identifying and nurturing creative human resource talents.

■ Abstract
”Relations between design thinking scores and experiences of university students”
Regression analysis was conducted between the Design Thinking scores of university students and *data on their experience in design thinking to demonstrate the usefulness of the Design Thinking Test Scores in scoring “problem finding and solution creation skills”. As a result, a positive correlation was found between test scores and 2 types of experiences: first, long-term internships and practical work experiences involving problem solving; and second, participation in business competitions. This analysis verified the usefulness of Design Thinking Scores and demonstrated correlations with problem-solving experience that requires design thinking.
*With their permission, data from approximately 10,000 were included in the study.

■About “The 6th World Conference on Production and Operations Management”
The Japan Operations Management & Strategy Association (JOMSA), the presiding body over the conference, aims to exchange information on research, education and practices related to the execution and implementation of operations in management, including operations strategy. JOMSA aims to contribute to the advancement and development of the world’s academia and industry on a domestic as well as global level by exchanging information related to research, education, and practice in management, including operations strategy, by promoting cooperation with overseas European Operations Management Associations and operations management-related societies in Asia.

The paper shows research results which recognizes that the Design Thinking Score is useful in measuring design thinking skills to support the development of human resource talents, who are to drive corporate transformation in the future.

■ Comment from Mr. Takashi Iwamoto, Specially Appointed Professor, Graduate School of Business Administration, Keio University.
A study of this scale that measures design thinking skills is unprecedented. The fact that practical experiences such as long-term internships and business competitions correlated statistically significantly with design thinking scores, while classroom learning did not correlate to the same extent, provides quantitative evidence of what had previously only been observed through sentiment. This study supports the notion that the Design Thinking Score itself is also useful for measuring design thinking experiences and skills.

While the importance of design thinking has been recognized around the world, there has been little discussion about methods to improve and measure a such a broad range of skills. This paper confirms that the Design Thinking Test can be a powerful tool for this purpose. We hope that the test will contribute to the spread and development of design thinking and, consequently, to the discovery and skill development of many innovators.

■ Comment from Mr. Masaru Matsumoto, CEO of VISITS Technologies.
Under the mission of “building an ecosystem in which everyone can contribute to the creation of social value through the science of creativity,” VISITS Technologies is a startup that develops and operates a variety of products that use “Consensus Intelligence” technology, the world’s first consensus building technology to quantify creativity.

With this study providing academic evidence regarding the validity of the Design Thinking Score as a tool to identify and nurture DX talents, we hope that more people and companies can use Design Thinking Scores with confidence and conviction. Beyond this study, we hope to help everyone realize their potential and contribute to the acceleration of innovation in Japan through the co-creation of diverse values for the betterment of society.
CEO Masaru Matsumoto

Beyond the results of this study, VISITS aims to support the promotion of human resource DX by popularizing the Design Thinking Score in Japan, as well as working to gain international recognition.

■About the Design Thinking Test
Using algorithm technology patented in Japan and the US, the Design Thinking Score®︎ objectively calculates people’s ‘problem-finding’, ‘data utilization’ and ‘business conceptualization’ skills which underly digital transformation.
The ‘DX Cloud’ SaaS quantifies and visualizes the skills of these DX human resource talents, tracks improvements and changes in these talents’ scores, as well as providing a benchmark comparison by viewing the scores of other companies.

‘DX Cloud ’has already been adopted by more than 200 major Japanese companies, including consulting firms and major electronics manufacturers, mainly in the areas of recruitment and human resources development, with more than 20,000 people taking the test each month.
